Dude Ranch horses are an integral part of the operation that we run here at the Gros Ventre River Ranch. We pride ourselves in owning a wonderful herd of horses that can suit all types of riders.  Whether your visit out west is your first experience with horses, or you
are a professional equestrian looking to ride our varied terrain, we are sure to have horses that will make your experience unforgettable.

There are many characteristics that make our horses wonderful. First and foremost, they know their job and they are good at it. Trekking up and down our mountainous terrain is all in a standard days work for our dude ranch horses. Whether you want to get a breathtaking picture of the Tetons in Grand Teton National Park or get a glimpse of Slide Lake they know how to get you there. And more importantly they will know how to get you home! Another wonderful quality of our horses is their ability to keep pace. Our horseback riding program is special in that we give our guests opportunity to trot and lope, and our horses are happy to oblige. Many of our guests do learn to trot and lope here during their stay, however we love to have fellow equestrians stay with us who desire an exciting experience on horseback different than what they are able to participate in at home. Our herd of 90 horses are athletic, well maintained, and happy to do their job and do it well. They are rested often during our season to ensure they are cheerful, healthy and refreshed for each guests who is paired with them.
