Our Dude Ranch from a Guest’s Perspective: The Gros Ventre River Ranch

August 6, 2012

I hear the ringing of the bell, telling me it is time for dinner. I am excited to see what the chef has prepared to eat tonight. The aroma coming from the kitchen tells me that it will be delicious, again. I hear the clinking of the glasses, each guest happy to be together, toasting their wine glasses in celebration of their shared experience on the ranch so far. Conversation is buzzing. Some are talking about the ride they took today; some are talking about their white water trip they … Continue reading

July 25, 2012

Good morning! We are in mid-season here in Jackson Hole and we couldn’t be happier with how our summer has been so far! We have had guests from California to England, Germany to Florida.  Many changes happened on the ranch this season, including: new Cowboy singers on Wednesday and Friday night cookouts, a whole new kitchen staff, a couple of new puppies, and a few new horses.  Our wait staff even have new button down shirts!  But of course, it wouldn’t be the Gros Ventre if we didn’t stick with our old favorites.  … Continue reading

Over the years…Memories from a Jackson Hole Dude Ranch

February 13, 2012

As the summer of 2012 approaches, we wanted to take this opportunity to share a little bit of the history of the Gros Ventre River Ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and what it has meant and still means to the Weber and McGough families over the last 25 years. We purchased the property, known as the Flying V Ranch, from Roy and Becky Chambers in October 1987. We bought 158 acres, four small cabins and a lodge. Our vision was to make it a place that families and individuals could … Continue reading

We offer two horseback rides a day, plus all day rides, breakfast rides, picnic rides, and more! Why Should We Visit a Wyoming Guest Ranch?

July 27, 2011

Main Lodge - Gros Ventre River Ranch - Jackson Hole Guest Ranch

It has been awhile since the world has been encouraged to take their families on a “dude ranch” vacation. Long gone are the days of John Wayne or the Lone Ranger –even the movie City Slickers is a distant memory. So for us in the dude ranching industry, what are we doing to get our name “out there” and express the benefits of vacationing on a guest ranch?  It is all about our guests. Guests that come to our ranch will be provided with good quality accommodations, food, horses and activities. … Continue reading

Wyoming Dude Ranch Newsletter: 2010

February 3, 2011

The snow is falling outside my window at our Wyoming dude ranch and it is getting difficult to see the top of the buck-rail fences. We have a resident Moose, Todd the fox and a few magnificent Elk taking advantage of our winter haystack. It is in this quiet and insulated atmosphere that Tina, Karl, Sean, and I reflect on the recent summer season and muse over the wonderful time spent with our staff and guests in 2010. Our summer started off with a surprise- we were new “parents.” A … Continue reading

New Years Eve Bonfire Tradition

January 4, 2011

Here at the Gros Ventre River Ranch we take our fires seriously. We like them. A lot. That’s why on New Year’s Eve we have kept the tradition of an annual bonfire. Neighbors, friends, and family gather round with coffee, cocoa, and snacks. Snowball fights insue and Christmas trees are even set ablaze. All the debris from a summers worth of cutting down dead trees, picking up loose scraps and chucking old buck rail fence has come to this one glorious moment. One big hot fire that could melt the … Continue reading
