There are many opportunities for fly fishing in Jackson Hole, but few compare to the personalized and private experience that we offer at the Gros Ventre River Ranch! In this blog post, we take you behind the scenes of our fly fishing program, and give you an exclusive look into a day in the life of our fishing guide.

The fishing guide’s day starts with getting equipment ready for the day. He puts poles together for his private lessons, plans which section of the river he will be using, picks out a selection of flies, and more.

If he is fishing with guests new to fishing, lessons typically start at our private, stocked ponds with a short fly casting lesson. Once their casting looks good, our guide will take guests to different holes on the river.

A mile and a half of the Gros Ventre River runs through the Gros Ventre River Ranch, and is open exclusively to our guests. The river is fly fishing and catch and release only, and presents unique challenges to new and experience fly fishermen alike! Our guide helps guests choose the right fly for where they are fishing and know where to cast, as well as untangling the occasionally snagged line.

At the end of the day, guests typically walk away having caught a selection of cutthroat or rainbow throat, and have had the time of their lives fly fishing in Jackson Hole!
