Fishing on our Gros Ventre River
A September Afternoon Spent Fishing on the Gros Ventre River For this blog, we spent some time fishing with a few of our guests and our wonderful guide, Tate. The goal of this excursion was to capture guest’s perspectives on what it’s like to fish with us during their dude ranch vacation. John, from Virginia, told us why he enjoyed fishing our river. First, he noticed the beauty of the cutthroat trouts he was catching. John credited their stunning colors and patterns to the fact that they are wild, not … Continue reading

Grand Teton Wildlife Sightings at the GVRR
We have had many Grand Teton wildlife sightings at the Gros Ventre River Ranch in the last few weeks. The moose, deer, bison, and antelope have been out and about trying to enjoy the last bits of warm weather. During the next few weeks we can expect to see elk migrating by the thousands through the valley to the National Elk Refuge where they will spend the cold winter months. Other members of the Grand Teton wildlife family will embrace the snow and continue to visit us often. We even … Continue reading

A Beautiful End to a Beautiful Season at a Wyoming Dude Ranch
We can’t believe yet another season has drawn to an end at our Wyoming dude ranch! It feels like just yesterday that the pastures were green, our horses fat from winter grazing, and we were eagerly anticipating the beginning of our 2014 season. A short four months later, we are left to reminisce about the wonderful season that we’ve had here at the Gros Ventre River Ranch. Some of our favorite 2014 memories include…. Wounded warriors Our season started out with us hosting a group of wounded warriors from the … Continue reading

Wyoming Guest Ranches ~ Winter Update
Wyoming guest ranches experience sometimes harsh (but always fun!) winters, and we want to share some of our favorite winter moments so far with you! Winter here at the ranch is quiet ~ our last guests depart at the end of September, and our season doesn’t start again until the end of May. As the snow piles up, those of us who are lucky enough to live here year round see a dramatic shift in the activities we get to do. Instead of horseback riding into the hills overlooking the … Continue reading

Jackson Hole Dude Ranch: Winter Pasture
As many of our guests know, the horses at our Jackson Hole Dude Ranch head to Dubois for the winter, where the temperatures stay balmy and the snow doesn’t stick. The last of the horses left the ranch two weeks ago, and they all arrived healthy and ready for their vacation! Sean and Tori recently took a drive to visit them, and were happy to report that the horses looked better than ever. Their favorite sight was watching horses Ghost and Steel running around with mud all over their faces … Continue reading

Wyoming Guest Ranches ~ Wildlife Sightings
Visits to Wyoming Guest Ranches afford guests magnificent wildlife sightings, ranging from bald eagles to moose to bighorn sheep. However, one of our favorite animals to spot are the black bears that stop by the ranch from time to time! This fall, we have had an adolescent cinnamon black bear decide to make the ranch his home, and we don’t blame him! The Gros Ventre River Ranch boasts incredible scenery, an intimate setting, delicious food and more, and there’s no doubt in our minds that he loves the ranch for … Continue reading
