Fishing on our Gros Ventre River
A September Afternoon Spent Fishing on the Gros Ventre River For this blog, we spent some time fishing with a few of our guests and our wonderful guide, Tate. The goal of this excursion was to capture guest’s perspectives on what it’s like to fish with us during their dude ranch vacation. John, from Virginia, told us why he enjoyed fishing our river. First, he noticed the beauty of the cutthroat trouts he was catching. John credited their stunning colors and patterns to the fact that they are wild, not … Continue reading

THE HISTORY OF THE GROS VENTRE RIVER RANCH
Have you ever wanted to learn more about the history of the Gros Ventre River Ranch? Well you are in luck! Ranch manager Tori McGough has complied a brief history—along with wonderful photographs—to share a bit more about our beloved ranch and how it has become the wonderful place that it is today! The town of Kelly, downriver from the Ranch, was nearly wiped out and even Jackson, 18 miles distant, had … Continue reading

Jackson Hole Wildlife at the GVRR
We get to see many different animals come and go out of the valley, as Jackson Hole wildlife migrate in and out of the Gros Ventre and Antelope Flats regions. During the spring, the annual elk migration takes place, at which time the elk migrate out of the valley into the colder mountains, where they remain until the fall. Pronghorn Antelope and Bison return to the valley in the spring time, and we get to see herds of bison grazing in Antelope Flats and Mormon Row. Our year round wildlife, including … Continue reading

Jackson Hole Dude Ranch ~ Happy New Years!
Happy New Year from our Jackson Hole Dude Ranch! As Sean and I enter our 14th year managing the ranch, we are continually thankful for Karl and Tina’s vision for the Gros Ventre River Ranch. For those of you who do not know how this place came to be, I will give you a quick recap. After years of sharing ownership in a guest ranch in Jackson Hole, Karl and Tina sold their interest to their partner and started looking for a ranch of their own. Separately, they each came … Continue reading
