Jackson Hole Wildlife at the GVRR

We get to see many different animals come and go out of the valley, as Jackson Hole wildlife migrate in and out of the Gros Ventre and Antelope Flats regions. During the spring, the annual elk migration takes place, at which time the elk migrate out of the valley into the colder mountains, where they remain until the fall. Pronghorn Antelope and Bison return to the valley in the spring time, and we get to see herds of bison grazing in Antelope Flats and Mormon Row. Our year round wildlife, including … Continue reading

The History of Our Jackson Hole Dude Ranch ~ Vintage Gros Ventre River Ranch

The secluded property on which our Jackson Hole dude ranch sits became a homestead property in the early 1900s, and operated as a working ranch. The original owners grew a variety of crops to feed their families, and raised cattle and other stock on these same lands that we now call home. The ranch made the transition to a dude ranch when it was purchased by Roy and Becky Chambers in the 1950s ~ at that time, the culture in America was shifting towards Western vacations, and they thought that … Continue reading

Wyoming Dude Ranch Newsletter~ 2012 in Review

It is almost 2013 at our Wyoming dude ranch and we are under a (very thin) blanket of snow.  It is always this time of year that lends itself to reflection and appreciation of the year just passed. 2012 marked our 25th anniversary and we celebrated all summer long.  Each one of our 18 weeks of operation was packed with ways to enjoy our surroundings and enhance the western experience for our guests.  We had fly casting clinics and personalized fishing instruction on our river with James Lee, our usual … Continue reading

As the summer of 2012 approaches, we wanted to take this opportunity to share a little bit of the history of the Gros Ventre River Ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and what it has meant and still means to the Weber and McGough families over the last 25 years. We purchased the property, known as the Flying V Ranch, from Roy and Becky Chambers in October 1987. We bought 158 acres, four small cabins and a lodge. Our vision was to make it a place that families and individuals could … Continue reading

Wyoming Dude Ranch Newsletter: 2010

The snow is falling outside my window at our Wyoming dude ranch and it is getting difficult to see the top of the buck-rail fences. We have a resident Moose, Todd the fox and a few magnificent Elk taking advantage of our winter haystack. It is in this quiet and insulated atmosphere that Tina, Karl, Sean, and I reflect on the recent summer season and muse over the wonderful time spent with our staff and guests in 2010. Our summer started off with a surprise- we were new “parents.” A … Continue reading
